NEW ZEALAND VISA REQUIREMENTS
New Zealand has a variety of visa types and requirements depending on the purpose of your visit, your nationality, and the duration of your stay.
NEW ZEALAND VISA POST COVID
New Zealand implemented strict border controls and travel restrictions to prevent the spread of the virus, and these measures were subject to change as the situation evolved.
Here are some points to consider with regard to New Zealand visas post-COVID:
NEW ZEALAND VISA FOR US CITIZENS
It is important to understand that if you are a US citizen visiting New Zealand, you will need to obtain a travel permit. Citizens of about 190 countries, including the United States, can use the New Zealand eTA. Applying for a New Zealand eTA is a quick and simple process for US citizens. The New Zealand eTA for Americans (commonly known as the “NZeTA”), which became effective in 2019, allows qualifying citizens to travel to New Zealand for transit, tourist, or business. Residents of the United States who intend to visit New Zealand for a limited time must have an authorized eTA that is electronically connected to their passport. The New Zealand eTA is valid for two years from the date of issuance. US citizens can stay in New Zealand for up to 3 months at a time with their eTA. As the New Zealand eTA is a multiple entry eVisa waiver, holders can visit New Zealand multiple times within the two-year period of validity. To apply for a New Zealand ETA from the United States, US citizens must complete a short online application form that asks for the traveler’s personal and passport information. Once approved, US citizens will receive a copy of their New Zealand eTA to the email address provided in the application form.

The NZeTA is an entry requirement for travelers from visa waiver countries and those transiting through New Zealand. Here are the general steps for applying for an NZeTA:
NEW ZEALAND TOURIST VISA
New Zealand is a natural wonderland located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. As a result, it is one of the world’s most visited tourist destinations. While the NZeTA is not a visa, it is necessary for admission starting in October 2019. Passport holders from the 190 visa-free nations must apply for a NZeTA before entering New Zealand. Some visitors and transit passengers are permitted to enter New Zealand without a visa if they obtain a NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority) before departing. The New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (eTA) is a visa-free travel permit given by New Zealand. From October 2019, eligible visitors will be able to obtain their NZeTA fast in order to enter the country for tourism, business, or transit. It has a validity period of two years (or until the registered passport expires). It can be used for multiple visits and allows stays of up to 30 days. Citizens of New Zealand eTA-eligible countries and eligible transit passengers can easily obtain a New Zealand eTA by completing a simple online application form. There is no need to visit an embassy or consulate and the online New Zealand eTA application form takes just a few minutes to complete.
Who needs an eTA for New Zealand?
British citizens are allowed to stay for up to six months, while Australians are granted resident status upon arrival. Individuals transiting through New Zealand on their way to another country must apply for a transit NZeTA. Passport holders from the 190 visa-free countries must apply for a NZeTA for tourism before visiting New Zealand beginning October 1, 2019. The New Zealand eTA, whether for transportation or tourist, is valid for two years from the date of issue.
